takes a look at the idiosyncracies of the telephone and its change from the perspectives of art and science. Events in Stadtkino Basel and artspace [plug.in] in cooperation with the scientific symposium /dis/connecting/media/ put the culture and aesthetics of the (mobile-) phone up for discussion and establish connections between media art, cultural science and cinema.
MOVIES
The film program Phone in film. Sorry, wrong Number!, 1.-31. october 2009, in Stadtkino Basel shows and discusses movies which feature the telephone in its cultural and narrative potential.
LECTURES
The international symposium /dis/connecting/media/, 1.-3. october 2009 baselcitystudios, organized by the graduate program ProDoc: Aesthetics of Intermediality. Play – Ritual – Performance of the universities Basel and Bern, is dedicated to cultural and media-related approaches to the telephone.
MEDIA ART
The exhibition Pronto! On telephony in [plug.in], 3. september – 8. november 2009, shows artworks which deals with both playful-experimental and critical-reflexive themes in regards to the social impact of the telephone.
